A GUI is useful for specific workloads. It adds resource overhead.

Recommended first

• Use SSH whenever possible.

• Use a lightweight desktop if you need one.

Typical approach (high level)

1. Update packages.

2. Install a desktop environment group.

3. Set default boot target to graphical.

4. Reboot.

On small VPS plans, a GUI can make the server feel slow. Upgrade RAM if needed.
